Chundu Island, a tranquil and private sanctuary on the magnificent Zambezi River, has eight chic palm-thatched, fully-equipped tented rooms with comfortable beds, a large en-suite bathroom and private deck. Riverine trees provide a cool place from which to relish the surrounding sights and sounds. The expansive dining area, open-plan lounge and bar face up-river into the setting sun and create the perfect spot to relax with a book. Unwind in the evenings around the bar with a sundowner and witness spectacular sunsets peppered with the soulful cries of the African Fish Eagle whilst you enjoy the shenanigans of elephants and hippos on the opposite bank. This unrivalled backdrop invites guests to share their day’s adventures before moving to the private dining area to savour the cuisine of the day. Unsurprisingly, stories are shared with fellow guests late into the night under clear, starlit skies accompanied only by the sounds of chirruping crickets and snorting hippos!
A mere 21kms from Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls, transfers can be arranged to this bucket list-er that has to be explored up close to get the full scale of its majesty. Also on offer are insanely-daring activities that inspire manic adrenalin overload! Chundu also provides access to the Zambezi National Park, 4×4 safaris, walking trails, river cruises and fishing. The park has a spectacular range of birdlife and is teeming with the best of African wildlife – from buffalo, kudu, giraffe, zebra and crocodiles to a growing population of lions, hyenas, leopards and endangered wild dogs.
